I Love Hip Hop Blog – Kendrick Lamar is a 25 year old hip hop artist from Compton, CA. Prior to releasing Good Kidd M.A.A.D. City he released an independent album through Itunes in 2011 entitled Section.80. Good Kid M.A.A.D City is his 1st launch on major labels Interscope and Aftermath. The album consists of 12 tracks, producers including but not limited to Dr.Dre, The Neptune, &  Scoop Deville. Features on the album include Jay Rock, Drake, Dr.Dre, MC Eiht, and Anna Wise of Sonnymoon. The acronym M.A.A.D. has 2 meaning Kendrick Lamar explained to HipHopDX.com “My Angry Adolescence Divided” & “My Angels on Angels Dust”. The Deluxe Edition Good Kidd M.A.A.D. City album cover can be simply described unlike his album as a Polaroid picture of a burgundy van parked on the street in the neighbor hood of Compton.

Track 2 B*tch Don’t Kill My Vibe – The dynamic and truthful hook opens this track with

I am a sinner/Who’s probably gonna sin again/Lord forgive me/Lord forgive me/Things I don’t understand/Sometimes I need to be alone/B*tch don’t kill my vibe/B*tch don’t kill my vibe.

Kendricks unique robotic flow on this track proves his originality and creativity as a artist. The track takes you into a zone, a daze and makes you nod your head and have that “I feel this” “I know what he’s talking about” attitude.

Track 6 Poetic Justice Ft Drake – Kendrick Lamar, a Janet Jackson sample and Young Money artist Drake says it all. The flow, mood, rhythm of this Janet Jackson sample of “Anytime, Anyplace” is not only for the ladies it’s for the Poetic. Perfect combination of a sample, a beat, creativity and talent.

Every time I write these words they become a taboo/Making sure my punctuation curve, every letter is true/Living my life in the margin and that metaphor was proof/I’m talking poetic justice, poetic justice/If I told you that a flower bloomed in a dark room, would you trust it?

Track 4 The Art Of Peer Pressure – Kendrick invites us to chill with him and his homies. Smoking, drinking, having a sober soul but not able to be sober when being with the homies. This track is a perfect example of his story telling skills as he recaps when him and his homies went out looking for women and trouble “bumping  Jeezy first album”.

Track 15 Bonus Track Now Or Never ft Mary J. Blige – This celebration track expresses Kendrick’s story of struggle, success, his future & thankfulness. The diva Mary backed him up with her soulful anointed vocals.

I’m so high I can touch the sky/I know it’s my time/And it’s now or never/I shine so bright I light the night/And it feels so right, ain’t nothing better

Kendrick Lamar’s story telling and lyrical ability is impeccable. No track on this album should be skipped. A masterpiece of art from Compton, California. The originality is obvious and cannot be denied. This album is definitely one of those classic albums that you’ll still listen to years and years from now. His tone and delivery allows you to confirm and believe the realness of every word.  We rarely now hear albums like this, pure Hip Hop. Job well done Kendrick…. I LOVE HIP HOP CERTIFIED!!!!
