Sometimes when you stumble upon an artist you can be sad that you did, but this is definitely not the case when it comes to London-based singer, Haula. While allowing my Soundcloud just play on related tracks after checking another new artist, Haula’s debut song, “Darkest Hour” begin to play…
From, literally the first second of the song, as the echoing claps and deep drum kicks catches my ears as it reminded me of a production from Massive Attack, I stated to myself, “This shit is about to be hot!” I was right as she comes in with her attention demanding vocals singing, “In your darkest hour, I will give you love.” With a voice made to perform in Carnegie Hall, each ambient notes that HAULA sings will come to engulf you mind as the orchestration builds with the emotion put into this dark, symphonic, rock gospel. With influences that include singers such as Nina Simone, Sade, Beyonce, Etta James and Ella Fitzgerald, Haula delivers the emotions and vocal strength of all of her inspirations with her debut single.
I’m claiming this, ‘Haula Will Have You Yelling, HAULAlujah!’
